Quality of care for cancer patients...

Cancer is one of the most devastating diseases that a person can be confronted with. Adequate care and treatment are obviously of great importance. After cancer has been diagnosed, the patient will come into contact with many different care providers and organisations. Together they form one large network, which includes for example, general practitioners, medical specialists, hospital nurses, district nurses, social workers, etc.. The Comprehensive Cancer Centre North East (IKNO) plays a central role as a knowledge centre and quality centre for oncological care.

Via the IKNO, knowledge and experience in the field of cancer are shared with others. The provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe, the North East Polder, the northern part of Overijssel and a few municipalities in Gelderland make up the area in which the IKNO is active. Besides the IKNO, there are seven other regional cancer centres, which together cover the whole of the Netherlands. Within this region, the IKNO works in close cooperation with, for example, other hospitals, radiotherapy institutes, pathology laboratories, home care organisations, general practitioner associations and patient organisations. The IKNO plays a supportive, stimulatory, mediative and coordinative role, but it does not treat patients.

By boosting knowledge about care, cooperation within this care and the organisation of the care, the IKNO promotes high quality care provision at hospitals and at home. In this way the IKNO contributes to improving the quality of life of (ex)cancer patients.

IKNO: knowlegde, cooperation and organisation

Knowledge about care, cooperation within the care and the organisation of care; three concepts that run like continuous threads through the work of the IKNO. By stimulating and supporting all aspects surrounding the care process, the IKNO helps to improve the quality of care for cancer patients.
